Q & A for the top hair styling tips when wearing hats and fascinators

Rosie Hegarty

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with the lovely girls from Mussan Hair and Beauty in WA and got the inside scoop on hair styling tips and tricks. When it comes to wearing a hat or fascinator, your hair plays a big part of the look. So getting it right is part of the fun.

Here's what they had to say.

Hair styles for fascinators and hats

Think about what you're wearing before deciding on your hairstyle.

How do I keep my curls in all day?

The best way to keep your curls in is by prepping your hair first then curling them really tight using styling products. That way they'll hold for longer. Throughout the day give the ends a slight tease with your fingers to keep them looking their best.

How long does it typically take for an up do to be done by a hairdresser?

Depending on the style of your up do it can take between 45-60 minutes.

What’s the best hair style when wearing a hat?

A ponytail, waves down or straight.

Waves down for hats

Waves down look great with a hat.

What’s the best hairstyle when wearing a fascinator?

You can wear your hair up or down depending on the style of your dress. For example if you’re wearing a halter neck dress to show off the detail an up do would work really well.

What products do you recommend for thin hair?

Powder puff is a goodie. Also using shampoo for thickening/volume adding.

What products do you suggest for coarse thick hair?

Soothing prep, serum and lots of hairspray. Shampooing initially with a good blow dry will also help.

How can I keep my hair straight and slick all day?

Blowdry straight then use a straightening iron. Use smoothing lotion, hairspray and gel to tame the wispy flyaway hairs and don't forget a heat protector.

The key is the product. By washing your hair with a nourishing shampoo and conditioner you can add to that with serums, soothing prep and spray for shiny and gorgeous hair.
