How to keep your hat or fascinator dry at the races

Rosie Hegarty

Unfortunately, we can’t control the weather on Race Day and generally if you live in Melbourne or the UK chances are it could rain on Melbourne Cup or at Ascot. Water is the enemy to most hats and fascinators due to the materials that they are made from. Often sinamay and Petersham are used and these fabrics hate water. As soon as your hat gets wet, it’s at risk of losing its shape.

Help keep your headwear dry by incorporating a couple of quick tricks to your outfit. Buy a clear transparent plastic umbrella and a clear transparent plastic raincoat. Your outfit and headwear will stay dry but more importantly, everyone will still be able to see what you are wearing underneath so all of your efforts won't go to waste.
